The following are excerpts taken from transcripts of a conversation with a Carnegie Mellon student.
Name: Amanda Wilczynski
Year: Senior
Major/Minor: Professional Writing
Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA
Why Carnegie Mellon?
Carnegie Mellon has a great campus and great academics.
How did you choose your major?
I have always enjoyed writing.
What do you do for fun during the week, in addition to your homework?
Hang out with my friends, go out to eat, go see a movie and shopping... and course cheer on my Pittsburgh Steelers during football season!
What is your favorite class? Please describe.
Survey of Forms: Screenwriting. It was a lot of fun, the professor was amazing and by the end of the semester, I had my very own written movie script!
Are you planning to work on any research/internships?
Yes. I had two part-time internships last summer (an editing position and a writing/marketing position). This summer I am working as an intern at an online marketing/PR company started by a Carnegie Mellon grad.
What are your plans after graduation?
Get my masters degree here at Carnegie Mellon. Then, get a job in my field for a few years before seeking my Ph.D. and hopefully teaching at a university.
What is your favorite thing to do in Pittsburgh (or favorite place off-campus)?
Shopping!
What is your favorite memory of Carnegie Mellon, so far?
It's hard to name one thing, but I'd probably say cheerleading at the football games.
Are there any fun traditions that you want future Carnegie Mellon students to follow?
The Fence!
If there was one thing you could tell a prospective student about Carnegie Mellon, what would it be?
Bring a mini vacuum!
