What is the first-year retention rate?
94.5% of Carnegie Mellon students enroll and graduate from the university.
What is the four-year graduation rate?
69.1% of Carnegie Mellon students graduate in four years. Many students also take part in five-year programs which including Architecture, 5th year Scholar program and 3-2 Engineering/Business program.
What percentage of students live in university housing?
Housing is guaranteed for all four years, and 83% of students stay within university housing. Students have the option of living on- or off-campus during their four (or five, in the case of architecture) years, and in a variety of housing styles, such as single, double, quad, suite or apartment style rooms.
What is the geographic diversity of Carnegie Mellon students?
Carnegie Mellon enrolls students from 50 states and more than 40 countries.
Is the campus safe?
Carnegie Mellon uses various methods to ensure the safety of its students. The campus is patrolled 24 hours a day by police in cars, on bikes and on foot. Carnegie Mellon has its own private shuttle that runs throughout the campus and surrounding neighborhood communities free of charge for our students. There is also a student escort service that students can call at any hour to request that a male and female accompany them their home, For more details, please take a look at Campus Safety or review the campus security reports.

The campus is 60% male and 40% female, with slightly different breakdowns by individual schools within the University.
What are recent graduates doing?
To find out what Carnegie Mellon graduates are doing, visit the Career Center! The Career Center maintains records of where graduates are employed, which companies actively recruit Carnegie Mellon students and where our students elect to pursue graduate studies – organized by the specific program/college the student attended at Carnegie Mellon.
Are research opportunities available to undergraduates?
Absolutely! Because of the practical, hands-on approach of the Carnegie Mellon curriculum, most classes are project/research based. Within the student’s specific area of study, they will learn fundamental theories related to their class and then apply that to project work. Undergraduate students can also apply for SURG grants to cover research expenses during the school year or obtain a Summer Fellowship for full-time summer research.
