Student Organizations for Women
Carnegie Mellon offers more than 130 student organizations and activities. Here is a sampling of what’s available, specifically for women:
Greek Life

About 15-20% of students participate in Greek Life. The Carnegie Mellon community includes 13 national fraternities, four national sororities and one private sorority. The Panhellenic Chapter at Carnegie Mellon fosters intersorority relationships, and cooperates with the university to maintain the highest scholastic and social standards. The Panhellenic Chapter sponsors many philanthropic, academic and social activities for the member sororities, as well as the greater campus community.
The Society of Women Engineers

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has more than 100 active members: women majoring in engineering, science and computer science. SWE hosts many social activities such as whitewater rafting, skiing, ice-skating and a winter ball. SWE also has a mentoring program for new arrivals, sponsors two annual programs for high school girls and helps sponsor the Technical Opportunities Conference whereby national companies visit Carnegie Mellon to recruit our students. SWE also has an online guide to becoming an engineer.
The Women@SCS

The Women@SCS creates, encourages and supports women's academic, social and professional opportunities in the computer sciences and promotes the breadth of the field and its diverse community. The Women@SCS Advisory Committee consists of undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty within the School of Computer Science.

Women in ECE (WinECE) is an organization for the professional development of women students and alumnae in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Carnegie Mellon.
Women in Science (WIS)

Women in Science (WIS) is a group consisting of undergraduate students and faculty within the Mellon College of Science (MCS) that brings together MCS women each month for a meeting with a catered dinner and speaker. WIS gives its undergraduate members the opportunity to learn more about the possibilities in their future and explore the many options that are available to them in the sciences. Faculty and student members are encouraged to share their wisdom and experiences.

The Women's Center is a student run collective that provides information, educational programs, community services, support and entertainment regarding a broad range of issues and concerns that profoundly affect women's lives.
