Founded in 1905, Carnegie Mellon’s College of Fine Arts (CFA) offers conservatory and studio-based training, which leads to professional degrees in architecture, art, design, drama and/or music. The College of Fine Arts was also the first school in the nation to award a degree in drama.
Students apply for admission directly to a specific school and are immediately immersed in that major upon enrollment to Carnegie Mellon. Each major is highly specialized yet also focuses on collaboration with other academic and artistic disciplines. With a student to faculty ratio of 9:1, you will work closely with professors to understand the process.
Carnegie Mellon’s CFA alumni:
- Shape the worlds of television, stage and film
- Create art collected in international museums
- Compose for, perform and conduct in major symphony orchestras, choruses and opera companies
- Design notable buildings, building systems and architectural imaging systems
- Create significant innovations in communication, graphic and industrial design
- Share their knowledge and passion as professors and deans in major arts institutions
