School of Art Lecture Series

The School of Art Lecture Series presents Xu Bing, who works in a wide range of media, creating installations that question the idea of communicating meaning through language. His work demonstrates how both meaning and written words can be easily manipulated. Among numerous awards, he received a MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Award in 1999 for "originality, creativity, self-direction and capacity to contribute importantly to society, particularly in printmaking and calligraphy."
